Tendonitis is often a wear-and-tear condition in which a tendon becomes over-utilized, inflamed and painful. Pain often occurs with increased usage and after physical activity. Early treatment and intervention can result in a shorter duration of pain and reduce long-term damage to the tendons.
Early treatment may include rest, ice, elevation, topical treatment, physical therapy or anti-inflammatory medications. More advanced treatment may involve taping, bracing, orthotic support or walking boots. Longstanding and chronic tendon damage may require evaluation with MRI and, possibly, surgical repair of the tendon. We offer minimally invasive tendon repair when this is a viable option.
